2009 WSOP Event 1 Results

The 2009 World Series of Poker kicked of Wednesday May 26th with their annual $500 Casino Employees No Limit Hold’em Event. This year’s series is expected to have far less players than in previous years because of the struggling economy. But that wasn’t very evident in this game.

The field was a resounding 866 players; only about 60 shy of last years numbers, and drew some big named players. Some of the bigger named players in this event were Marsha Waggoner, Kyle Morris, Pat Poels and Jack McClelland, former WSOP Tournament director. All of those players were out of the race by the end of Day 1.

The total prize pool for this event was almost $400,000. First place and $83,833 went to Andrew Cohen, whose pair of 6s were enough to eliminate Paul Peterson, who held AQ on his final hand.
