2009 WSOP Event 38 Results
After three long days and 445 players being eliminated in Event #38, $2,000 Limit Hold’em, the last man standing was a Dutchman, Marc Naalden. This was Naalden’s first bracelet win. He was also recently seen coming in 10th place at the European Poker Tour’s Grand Final.
This three day event saw just 107 players return on the second day, including Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu and Maria Ho. None of them however would make it through the day as the final remaining ten players would be announced at the end of Day 2. Day 3 had Naalden coming in with a huge chip lead, nearly 2.5 times that of his nearest competitor. Heads up action started with Naalden having 2.3 million chips to Steven Cowley’s 325,000 chip stack. It would still take another two hours of play before Naalden scooped up the last pot and the bracelet.
From the sideline the chorus of ‘Needleking’ would ring out from other Dutch players as Naalden would become only the second player ever from the Netherlands to take home a WSOP bracelet.
