2009 WSOP Event 43 Results

The third of three $1,000 buy in events in the 2009 World Series of Poker has finished. The first one was open to all players, the 2nd was for women only and the 3rd one was for seniors only.

This year a whopping 2,707 seniors entered Event #43, the Seniors $1,000 No Limit Hold’em Championship. PPA Chairman and former US Senator Al D’Amato was among the seniors who entered the tournament. Another senior, Amarillo Slim Preston, the oldest living WSOP Main Event Champ was also in the game. Some other recognizable faces seated for the game were Mike Sexton, Paul Magriel, TJ Cloutier and Michael Craig.

Of the 397 players who lasted through the first day of the event, only 28 of them would make it through to the final day. Day 3 lasted 9 hours until Michael Davis would be declared the victor in this event and walk away with his first gold bracelet and $437,358. He defeated Scott Buller in heads up play, leaving Buller one shy of the bracelet but stll leaving with $268,507.

During the second day of play there was some commotion about changing the rules of play to accommodate the seniors, some of whom said it was unfair to make them play 11 hours. We’ll see if any updates or accommodations are made for next year’s game.
