Barry Greenstein Poker Profile

Barry Greenstein (born December 30, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois) is a professional poker player.
Barry grew up in Chicago in the Scottsdale neighborhood where he excelled in math and computers in high school.
He got his B.S. in computer science and attended the University of Illinois, where he worked on his Ph.D. in mathematics.
He worked at Symantec (now known for its Norton anti-virus and security products) from 1984 until 1991 when he
retired at the age of 36. Since then he has pursued his passion for playing cards full-time. He has made a living playing
high stakes ring games in northern California and now in Larry Flynt's game at the Hustler Casino.
Greenstein was exposed to poker at a young age as his father was a noted poker player in the Army. After graduation
from Bogan High School, Barry earned his bachelors degree from the University of Illinois in Computer Science and is
just a few hours short of a doctorate in mathematics. He worked for Symantec until 1991 when he retired at age 36 to
become a full time poker player.

Greenstein total live tournament winnings are now just shy of $4 million, and he donates all of his winnings to charities.
The charity Children, Incorporated receives the vast majority of his donations which is why Barry is sometimes called the
“Robin Hood of Poker”.
Barry taught Mimi Tran how to play poker in exchange for her teaching him how to speak Vietnamese. He also plays
online at PokerStars under the alias “crazyplayer” ( the username was originally set up for Mimi).
Greenstein also wrote a book titled Ace on the River which WPT Season 3 champion Tuan Le claims to have shown
him how to succeed on the poker circuit. He was also on of the elite players invited to play in the Poker Superstars
Invitational Tournament as well as contributing to Doyle Brunson’s new book “Super System 2”.
Barry Greenstein is a very unique professional poker player. His style of play is methodical and precise allowing him to
survive in the large fields of entrants. He learned to play at home from his poker-playing father and has been a student
of the game most of his life. While other players are seeking to draw attention to themselves, Barry exhibits a quiet,
unassuming persona. He has been at several televised final tables.
Greenstein currently resides in Rancho Palos Verdes, California with his wife and six children.
