Chip Jett Profile![]() Chip Jett was born on September 22, 1974 in Scottsdale AZ. With a name like Chip Jett, what choice did this young man have, but to take up poker as a career at the tender age of 18? The name itself conjures up images of poker chips flying fast in all directions. Well, that’s exactly what you get with Chip Jett, but instead of all directions the chips fly right back to this accomplished young pro, seeking safety in numbers in his ever-growing chip stack. Chip Jett’s rise to the top of the tournament poker world began in 1992, in Arizona of all places. He was a working as a lifeguard at a public pool when a co-worker suggested a trip to the newly opened Fort McDowell Casino poker room. That trip opened his eyes to the unlimited possibilities that casino poker could provide. He left that night down $40, but with a job application in hand. Within a week he was enrolled in poker dealer school and 3 months later he was dealing poker and teaching at the dealing school he had recently graduated from. He went on to become a floorman and shift boss, before finally settling in as a proposition player. It was this job that kept him at FMC for 6 years, and during this time he began to hone his tournament skills, becoming the most successful player in the nightly tournaments around town. He soon quit his job after seeing that his knack for tournaments was paying more than his job ever could. In 2001, he got his first taste of stardom when he won the Best All Around Player award at the L.A. Poker Classic at Commerce Casino as a virtual unknown. Three years later he has a dozen major victories under his belt and was recently honored with one of the most important awards in the industry: Phil Hellmuth’s Champion of the Year award - 2003 - given to the player with the best record in, large buy-in, high profile tournaments, over the course of a year.
