Five Card Stud Poker

Five Card Stud poker is similar to 5 card draw and 7 card stud. You only get five cards as in draw, but you never get a chance to replace any cards to improve your hand. Like in seven card stud you get a hole card & usually 4 open cards for everyone to see. The problem here is most people play that the last card is a community card and therefore only have one hole card. This means that with no chance to replace cards there is a chance the winning hand is often a pair or sometimes it is even just a high card.

How To Play 5 Card Stud

Five Card Stud , 5-Card Stud is a game that is similar to 5 car draw and 7 card stud.

The Open in Five Card Stud
The round opens by the dealer giving each player 2 cards. He deals everyone one hole card and then goes around again and gives everyone an open card. After the initial deal, it is time to bet. It usually starts with the high open card betting first then going around the table clockwise. When the betting is over it is time to move on the 3rd street.

Third Street in Five Card Stud
A third card is dealt to each player as an open card. After the third card is is time to bet again. Again the best hand showing (open cards) starts the betting and continues clockwise until there are no more bets made and it's time to move on to 4th street.

Fourth Street in Five Card Stud
Fourth street is yet another open card. The betting process is repeated once again and then time to move on to 5th street.

Fifth Street in Five Card Stud
The final card is dealt. Usually it is a open card, but we here at drawdead.com think that having the fifth card in the hole is a better idea. This way there is more guessing what you opponents have and the strategy of betting and bluffing come into play a lot more.

*Sometime it is preferred that the first two cards are both dealt as hole cards and that the last three are all open cards.

Five card stud poker is one of my favorite games, Consider adding it to your playing time along with holdem and broaden your horizons!
