Gustav "The Great Dane" Hansen also known as Gus, was born on February 13, 1974 in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 1993, Gus was an exchange student at UCSC in Santa Cruz, California and it was there that he started playing poker. Hansen was known for his extremely loose and aggressive play style. He had a reputation for raising with almost any two cards, thus leading his opponents to call when he actually had a hand.

Before he turned pro in poker, Gus was a world-class backgammon player and had been a champion tennis player as a youth. He competed as was successful as a junior athlete. In 2000, Hansen moved to New York City to be a professional backgammon player, but found that there weren't too many other professional backgammon players. Gus was one of the founding partners of the online poker site, pokerchamps.com that was launched in 2003. But the company was bought out in 2005. Despite the sale, Gus is still playing there and was in the PokerChamps Danish Championship in 2005.

Having been voted People Magazine's "Sexiest Poker Player" in 2004, it doesn't surprise us that Gus is a model and and spokesperson for Frank Q, a Danish men's fashion clothing line.

Gus claims to have learned to speak English by listening to and reading the liner notes of Pink Floyd albums when he was younger.

Gus currently divides his time between Monaco and Las Vegas.
