Humberto Brenes Poker Profile![]() Humberto Brenes was born in San Jose, Costa Rica on May 8, 1951. Known as the Godfather of Costa Rican Players, Brenes began his gambling career playing baccarat. He started playing poker tournaments in the late 1970s and became a regular to the poker tournament scene in 1988. Brenes is one of the most charismatic and popular poker players in the world. His father taught him how to play poker at age 7. Humberto holds an industrial engineering degree from the University of Costa Rica and is a successful businessman. He has owned a Univision television station, a construction company and several restaurants. His unique dress sense makes him easy to spot at tournaments, as he tends to wear bright tracksuits, two pairs of glasses on top of each other, and a visor. Never shy to table talk, most of his fellow professionals acknowledge that he has a unique "Latin charm". Humberto also has two borthers that have won World Poker Titles, Alex Brenes and Erick Brenes..
