Phil Hellmuth Poker Profile![]() Phil Hellmuth was born July 16, 1964 in Madison, Wisconsin and at 24 years old became the youngest winner ever of the World Series of Poker in 1989. Nicknamed the "Brat," because of his perceived bad attitude and big ego, Phil is often compared to other bad boys of sports including John McEnroe. Hellmuth attended the University of Wisconsin for three years before dropping out to become a professional poker player. Phil Hellmuth is one of the most successful tournament poker players of all time. As of 2005 he has won 9 WSOP bracelets, tying the lead with Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan. Hellmuth also is the season three champion of Late Night Poker, the first time he ever won a tournament in Europe, and the winner of the 2001 Austrian Masters. In 2005, Phil won the first ever National Heads-Up Poker Championship. Hellmuth also four Hall of Fame Poker titles, earning himself the #1 rank among his peers. In addition to his poker playing, he is the author of many articles for Card Player Magazine and such poker books as Play Poker like the Pros, Bad Beats and Lucky Draws and The Greatest Poker Hands ever Played. He has also made several instructional poker videos, including Phil Hellmuths Million Dollar Poker Secrets. In addition to that, he is a frequesnt guest on ESPN and has been featured in more than 20 TV specials about poker and Las Vegas. Hellmuth is a spokesperson for and player at Ultimate Bet, an online poker room. His World Series of Poker accomplishments include first place finishes in The Championship Event in 1989, Limit Holdem in 1992, 1993, and 2003, two No Limit Holdem events in 1993, one in 2001, and one in 2003, and Pot Limit Holdem in 1997. His final table appearances at the World Poker Tour include finishing 4th at the Lucky Chances event (season one) and third at Foxwoods (season two).
