World Championship of Online Poker

The World Championship of Online Poker, or the WCOOP, is a series of online poker tournaments sponsored by PokerStars that was established in 2002. It is the online equivalent to the World Series of Poker. It is also the largest online tournament series of its kind.

 

When it started in 2002 there were only 9 nines in the series. In 2008 that number has risen to 33 different events. The events are all types of poker variants from No Limit Hold’em to Razz and 2-7 Triple Draw. Buyins for the series range from $215 all the way to the $25,500 High Roller heads up game. Players can buy in directly to any of the WCOOP games or there are some satellite games available for entry, including a few sit-n-go games. Those qualifying games have buy ins as low as $2..20 or 200 frequent player points.

 

 This years events start on September 5th and run until September 22nd. In addition to the cash prizes that players receive are personally engraved 14k gold bracelets. The total prize pool is year is guaranteed at $33,000,000! Thousands of online poker players will be vying for this years title including pros like Greg Raymer, Barry Greenstein and Daniel Negreanu.
